zinemate: SHH
SHH is an experimental A2 zine that merges a comic, a double-sided poster, and a "SHH" quiet sign into one. It invites readers to listen—not just to the world around them, but to the echoes within.
Rooted in Penang Hokkien and everyday symbols, SHH explores unspoken thoughts, drawing a link between fading dialects in Penang, Malaysia, and personal expression. Through this introspective journey, the zine becomes both a reflection and a quiet act of preservation.
The zine is published under zinemate:, a zine publishing project by Bang Bang Zine Malaysia that collaborates with creators in zine publishing.
Printed entirely in Risograph on a single A2 sheet, the zine folds into an 8-panel "scene roll" format. Inspired by continuous-form paper and film rolls, it features signature punched holes along the edges.
